Importance of Sports

So after the world cup has come to an end the true testament of it, at least in my eyes, is the importance of sports. The importance of sports in our life. Sports play a great role in our life as it keeps us healthy and active. People can have a healthy mind if we have a healthy body. Obviously, great achievements come our way when we maintain our physical and mental well-being.

Approach to sport

Sports can be seen as a competitive physical activity. As a matter of fact, it helps everyone to improve and maintain physical ability and skills.

There are all types of sports. Some of them are: air sports, cycling, equinemsports, fishing, golf, gymnastics, snow sports, water sports, yoga and pilates. There is boxing and contact sports, baseball, basketball, archery, diving, fencing, judo, volleyball, among others. Needless to say, that there is a type of sport for every single kind of person in the world.

They provide freedom from stress and worries. It also has nice scope and it could be a great professional career. Sports can be played for personal benefits as well as professional benefits. In both ways, it benefits our body, mind and soul.

Some people play daily for their body and mind fitness, enjoyment, etc. However some play it to get valuable status in their life.

There are many events that gather sport aficionados as well as participants. Some of the most important ones are: The Olympic Games, Special Olympics, Paralympic Games and the Football World Cup, to name a few.

The big events

Let us go a bit back in time, the First Olympic Games were held in 1896 in Athens which is now held continuously after every four years in different countries. It involves both, outdoor and indoor games in which sportsperson of many countries take part.

The modern Olympic Games are the leading international sporting event. It features summer and winter sports competitions in which thousands of athletes from around the world participate. The Olympic Games are held every four years, with the Summer and Winter Games.

The Special Olympics is the world’s largest sports organisation for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, providing year-round training and competitions to 5 million athletes.

Special Olympics competitions are held every day, all around the world. However, unlike the Paralympic Games, Special Olympics World Games are not held in the same year or in conjunction with the Olympic Games.

The Special Olympics World Games is a major event put on by the Special Olympics. The World Games alternate between summer and winter games, in two-year cycles, recurring every fourth year.

Some of the sports that are played during the special Olympics are: badmington, basketball, crocket, cycling, bowling,

I think its important to note that the International Paralympic Committee is a non-profit organisation and the global governing body for the Paralympic Movement.

The IPC organizes the Paralympic Games and functions as the international federation for nine sports. It was founded on 22 September 1989 in Düsseldorf, Germany. The IPC functions as an umbrella organization, representing several sports and disabilities.

The Football World Cup is another major sports event. The championship has been awarded every four years since the inaugural tournament in 1930, except in 1942 and 1946 when it was not held because of the Second World War.

The current champion is France, which won its second title at the 2018 tournament in Russia.

It is a business

Another aspect to take into consideration is that the world os sports deals with a lot of business (money). And, even if we hate to admit it, money makes the world go round.

In fact, many will dare to say that sports has become more about making money rather than sportsmansip. Case in point: the football world. It is such a widespread sport, that clubs sell merchandise and sponsorships to fans and companies in every corner of the world.

The result: three of the four most valuable sports franchises in the world are Manchester United ($4.123 billion), Real Madrid ($4.088 billion) and Barcelona ($4.064 billion), that is a lot of zeros.

Another example is the NFL (National Football Leage, USA). Broadcast networks pay excesive amounts in order to secure rights to NFL games. The Dallas Cowboys are the world’s most valuable sports team for the third straight year at $4.8 billion.

Improving through sport

So, as you see, money really plays a huge part in the development of how the world sees and feels a specific sport. But, returning to our main subject, sports and games (in general) are very beneficial to us as they teach us punctuality, patient, discipline, teamwork and dedication. Playing sports help us in building and improving confidence level.

To conclude we may say that sports has an important role in peoples life. it certainly helps us imparting character values, honesty, teamwork and fair play. Further more, experiencing the role of a graceful winner and loser teaches people about being humble. Competing gives us the possibility to learn about self-respect, confidence and managing stress.
